In the south region of Brazil there are many animals but the only animals we could notice were seagulls, dogs, whales and sea lions.

2)Which animals are unique to this region(hard to find elsewhere)?Which of the animals are endangered?
As far as the information we got on this trip goes i don't think any of our guides mention there are any specific animals only found in Santa Catarina. But Santa Catarina is the only place in latin America were the right whales exist but Bahia. They are endangered because for thousands and thousands of years people hunted and kill these whales, thought today a lot of countries have laws against killing right whales (they have this name because they are the RIGHT whale to hunt because they are so easy to kill). But even with protection many people in Iceland, Norway and Japan still kill them.

3)How do animals affect or impact the region?
Animals affect the region because in an ecosystem all organisms have to work together to become prosperous and united.

4)What else should we know about its fauna?
Well, a important thing about this regions fauna is that it contains one of the last pieces of Mata Atlantica of the world (Mata Atlantica is a rare kind of vegetation found in few places in the world. The Mata Atlantica is so destroyed because for thousands of years colonists from all over the world destroyed the Mata Atlantica for wood medicine and etc to import and sell.

The population of Florianopolis is about 980, 396 in the metropolitan area.

The Festa Junina is a celebration that happens in all Brazil but is widely respected in that region. The Festa Junina is where you sing and dance mostly forro, and eat various Brazilian food.

Day 3

1)What are the main economic activities in the area?
The main economics in this area is fishing.

2)Do you think this area is explored/developed?
Well yeas and no. It is pretty explored and i think that is why they now so much fishing spot and have so many fish, but in my opinion that place could be really more developed it could have better boats and fishing equipment that would make the work of the fisherman easily.

3)What suggestion would you make this area even more successful?
Well to get started i would start puting some additional restaurants so the people could enjoy a nice meal before or after going to the beach. They could also make a day that one fisherman volunteer would tour some people around, and take them to some cool stops in the area.

4)What resources are found in the area?
The resources that are found in the area are mainly fish and sea animals.

5)Is the region great for farming?
Well our personal opinion is no. This area is right on the beach so there is a lot of salt and most plants cannot survive with that much salt in the air. Haven't you ever wondered why the vegetation is ussualy far away from the sea?

6)How could the region be better explored for tourism?
The region could be better explored for tourists if a fisherman from the area volunteered to take the tourists around. Because guided they can go to cooler or more interesting locations by themselves if they would go by them selfs. Plus they would get more information ny the fosherman.

today was a awesome day we even went to do SUP!

Day 2

Picture Definitions:
The skull picture was taken while we were in Unisul and they showed some animal and indians fossils.

The two people like an Y picture was taken when our group was out exploring the big hills of the awesome sambaquis.

The picture that shows a stone is one of the two parts of the fort found on a sunken galleon in the Florianopolis bay.The stones were oing to be used to build a fort in the strait of
Maggelent

The one that shows two people with a
scientist was when we were in unisul
with the scientists.

Today is the second day of the trip to Florianópolis. Today we went to university called Unisul and a place called sambaqui. In Unisul we took a look at some different rocks, which were part of a fort that was being brought from Spain to establish a settlement in straight of Magellan,. We also went to the biggest sambaqui in the world (for you people who do not know, a sambaqui is a hill of human burials, rocks, and shells.).

The porpose of the activities was for us learn about our history and the history of the people who were America before us. Well you must be thinking for yourself BO-RING but its actually really interesting and a good environment of learning, we believe that all ages would should engage in all activities (but for people below the age of 16 and greater then 30) because you can enjoy the outside runing with your freinds in the sambaqui while still in the sambaqui enjoy a nice family picnic. After the picnic you can head to Tubarao and go to Unisul so you can meet the Scientist that will teach you about the shipwrecks that i talked about, than the other Scientist will teach you about archologicaal findings and the work of historicans.

But of course wile your there you should follow safety procedures or else you will die, kidding you wont but yo could get heart

1)Describe the Activity:
Its described at first paragraph

2)Describe the purpose of each activity:
The purpose of each activity was for us to learn that the sambaquis and indian lands are constantly being destroyed or invaded by other people and if we don't stop now in some years no one will be able to learn about the first people in america because they will be all dead. We went to the Unisul university to learn about a time that people are really tying to learn about. If they can get all the pieces of the boat out of the sea it will be one of the most amazing arqueological discoveries of the century.

3)What age levels may engage in activities?
On paragraph above

4)What safety precautions are taken in each activity?:
on paragraph above

5)Is food served in the activities?
In the Unisul activity food is not actually served but there are restaurants in Tubarao and there i also the Unisul cafeteria (you have to pay), and in the sambaqui activity food is not served at all so if you are a kind of person who get hungry often make sure to pack a snack.

6)How long the activities last?:
Well if you are planing to go from Florianopolis to Tubarao it is a 2 maybe 3 hours car ride. But if you go on both activities, both must be a 3 or 4 hours deal maybe 5 if you're stoping to eat.

7)Is there sun exposure in the activities?:
Well during the Unisul activity there is not a lot of sun exposure because you are mainly inside, but in the sambaquis activity there is a lot of sun exposure and wind so make sure to take sunglasses and a coat.

8)There is a lot of hiking/walking in the activities?:
In the Unisul activity there is kind of a lot of walking but mainly not because is not hard to walk around a university right? But in the sambaquis activity there is a lot of hiking involved, you are hiking the field hills near some lakes and the beach. So make sure to take your hiking shoes.

9)Are there bathroom facilities in the activities?
Yes there are bathrooms in Unisul, but in the sambaquis there are no bathrooms so before going go to the bathroom.

10)Are there souvenir shops in the activities?
There are no souvenir shops neither in Unisul are in the Sambaquis.

11)This activity enriched our trip because i loved to learned about shipwrecks so i liked it and in the sambaquis we learned how fragile the fossils and other indians places are with our invasions and no act from the government they can disappear it was awesome for us to learn more about it.

12)This activity enriched me because I think it was really awesome for us to learn about indians and shipwrecks.

13)What was your favorite activity?
Well it is really hard to say. I totally love both activities but if i really had to choose one i would choose the sambaqui activity because i loved to go exploring the hills the lakes and the dunes.

14)What made the activity your favorite?
us being able to explore the sambaquis freely it was awesome.

15)Have you ever participated in similar activities before?
Well yes and no. I never had visited any university to learn as cool stuff as shipwrecks are, but i did went to a place in chapada do veadeiros were i explored a lot but not as much as i did in the sambaquis.

16)How do the activities reflect on the culture of Brazil.
They reflect about the culture of Brazil because it was the portuguese and spanish who sank the boat so it also reflects in our culture because the Portuguese's colonized Brazil. In the sambaquis it reflect on our culture because of the first people to be on the brazil were not at all the portuguese it was the natives that build that sambaqui.

Day 1 Intro

Our team is ready for the trip!

Hello and welcome to our blog, this is a EAB (Escola Americana de Brasilia). In this blog we will learn together about the culture, religion, and other fun things about Florianópolis and the south of Brasil.

Today we went to the beach. It was fun but by the way it was really, really cold. When we got to the beach, Charlie (our guide) started talking about directions, we learned which way is south and north and were Africa roughly was. He talked about the vegetation in the beach, and we learned that the vegetation of the beach is way more complex that it looks.

You probably noticed that in some beaches the plants are really far away from the sea, that is because the salt from the sea is not good for plants and would kill them and because a really big wave could come to the plants and it would take them away from the sand and drag the to the sea.
