Picture Definitions:
The first picture at the top shows one of our group members in the entrance of the Right Whale museum in the town of Imbituba.
The second picture shows us playing with the weapon they used to kill whales.
The third picture shows the tube they used to boil the whale oil so they could sell it.
the fourth picture shows another of the weapons the whale hunters used to to take the oil out of the whale and then kill them.
The last picture shows the back of a right whale, we took that picture when we were touring the ocean in a town called Garopaba.
Questions:
1)What types of live in the region?
In the south region of Brazil there are many animals but the only animals we could notice were seagulls, dogs, whales and sea lions.
2)Which animals are unique to this region(hard to find elsewhere)?Which of the animals are endangered?
As far as the information we got on this trip goes i don't think any of our guides mention there are any specific animals only found in Santa Catarina. But Santa Catarina is the only place in latin America were the right whales exist but Bahia. They are endangered because for thousands and thousands of years people hunted and kill these whales, thought today a lot of countries have laws against killing right whales (they have this name because they are the RIGHT whale to hunt because they are so easy to kill). But even with protection many people in Iceland, Norway and Japan still kill them.
3)How do animals affect or impact the region?
Animals affect the region because in an ecosystem all organisms have to work together to become prosperous and united.
4)What else should we know about its fauna?
Well, a important thing about this regions fauna is that it contains one of the last pieces of Mata Atlantica of the world (Mata Atlantica is a rare kind of vegetation found in few places in the world. The Mata Atlantica is so destroyed because for thousands of years colonists from all over the world destroyed the Mata Atlantica for wood medicine and etc to import and sell.
5)What is the regions population?
The population of Florianopolis is about 980, 396 in the metropolitan area.
the south region f Brazil is about 27, 384, 815.
6)What types of people (ethnic groups, tribes etc) live there?
in Santa Catarina, there were mainly fisherman but there is also a lot of common people a s you and I am.
7)What is/are the main religions found in the region.
The main religion that area is Catholic.
8)Are there any kind of music dance connected to the region?
The Festa Junina is a celebration that happens in all Brazil but is widely respected in that region. The Festa Junina is where you sing and dance mostly forro, and eat various Brazilian food.
9)What else should we know about the regions people, culture and religion?
They talk like the southerners of brazil do, and they have similar costumes to the people in Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina.
